Job Description:
The Institute for Governance and Civics (IGC), along with the Department of Economics at Florida State University, invites applications for a position at the tenured associate or full professor rank. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenured position in the Department of Economics with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025. Salary is competitive.
We seek outstanding candidates whose research explores how economic, political, and legal institutions influence economic development, and whose work highlights economic liberty and the political economy of a free society. Candidates with experience in public-facing civic or economic initiatives are particularly desired. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to high-quality research and scholarship through publications in top-tier venues. Duties also include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, service responsibilities, and engagement in IGC programming.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Economics or equivalent terminal degree at the time of appointment;
- A clear record of research activity equivalent to an associate professor or full professor (depending on the rank being sought) at an R1 research university;
- An established record of successful teaching at the university level, commensurate with the rank being sought, and a demonstrated ability to teach and participate in the Department’s undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs.

Job Description:
- Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree upon taking the position. Expertise is required in the specific area of polling and data analysis (heavy emphasis on polling). Responsibilities may include designing and carrying out experiments, creating surveys and conducting polling, collecting and aggregating data from various sources, estimating regression models and other empirical analyses, presenting findings at public meetings and conferences, advising the Director on research questions and methods, and assisting various PIs affiliated with the IGC in their grant and paper writing. Candidates who also can conduct cost-benefit analyses are desired but not required.
- The position will research matters relating to civics, public policy, education, politics, and related matters.
- We are open to candidates from various mathematical and social science backgrounds, such as statistics, political science, public policy, economics, and related fields.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Academic doctorate or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties.
