Responsibilities
- Event Management: Responsible for researching, developing, and executing events that align with the goals of the IGC. Events may be initiated through direct assignment or identified through needs of assessments. Including engaging and coordinating with vendors to support events, as well as leading and managing the entire event planning process. This involves tracking and managing event-related expenditures and assigning resources to ensure successful event execution. Monitoring and recording event participation, maintaining and coordinating the IGC event calendar, and collaborating with IGC partners to facilitate smooth event registration. Additional duties comprise organizing travel, lodging, and local transportation for speakers, coordinating speaker dinners and related engagements, overseeing intern involvement in event operations, and providing on-site event management and support. Working with University stakeholders to secure event venues and procuring materials such as speaker gifts are also essential tasks. Responsible for negotiating contracts for IGC Speakers. Responsible for monitoring and controlling event budgets.
- Team & Partner Management: This position will represent the Institute for Governance and Civics on multiple work groups and teams. Additionally, this position will work closely with the undergraduate and graduate student interns at the IGC through the assignment of event related duties and preparations. This position will support other IGC activities and operations as assigned.
- Event Graphics: Design and produce visual assets, including flyers and promotional graphics, to support event marketing efforts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and four years experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.

Responsibilities
The Florida Institute for Governance and Civics is seeking up to two scholar-practitioners who can teach across the program’s core curriculum and mentor students preparing for positions as in teaching and leadership in K–12 classical schools, policy organizations, think tanks, or higher education.
Teaching Responsibilities
The faculty member will teach four courses per semester (4/4 load). Potential teaching assignments may include:
• Foundations of Classical Education: History and Philosophy, Part I (antiquity through Renaissance; primary texts: Quintilian, Hugh of St. Victor, Boethius, Erasmus)
• Foundations of Classical Education: History and Philosophy, Part II (Enlightenment to 20th-century renewal; Rousseau, Newman, Dewey, Sayers, Hicks, Adler)
• The Science of Learning in Classical Education (trivium/quadrivium + cognitive science)
• Socratic Inquiry and the Formation of Affections
• Learning and Liberty (debates on policy, curriculum, citizenship; Ravitch, Friedman, Hirsch)
• Policy and Practice in Education (capstone internship supervision; 120-hour placements)
Courses emphasize Socratic seminars, close reading, oral defense, and evidence-based argumentation. The candidate will also advise senior projects and contribute to program development.
Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Education, Philosophy, Classics, Cognitive Science, or related field (by August 2026)
• Experience teaching Socratic seminar or leading text-based discussions
Preferred Qualifications
• Expertise in primary texts of classical pedagogy (Quintilian, Hugh of St. Victor, Erasmus, Hicks, Sayers, Adler)
• Familiarity with cognitive science of learning (Willingham, Bjork, Sweller, Ruiz Martín)
• Practical experience in classical K–12 schools (teaching, administration, curriculum design)
• Policy engagement (e.g., school choice, accreditation, parental rights)
• Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration (philosophy, psychology, political science)

While this is a teaching-focused faculty position, candidates with an active research agenda in classical education are welcome to pursue scholarship in areas such as:
• intersections of cognitive science and the trivium/quadrivium
• historical recovery of liberal arts pedagogy
• policy analysis of school choice, curriculum wars, or character formation
• Socratic methods and moral imagination
Support is available for peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and public scholarship (e.g., op-eds, policy briefs), including collaboration with the Institute for Governance and Civics and potential grant opportunities.

Responsibilities
The Florida State University College of Law, in conjunction with the Institute for Governance and Civics (IGC), seeks up to two Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP), to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year. The College is located in the heart of downtown Tallahassee – the capital of the nation's third largest state – across the street from the Florida Supreme Court and one block from the Florida Capitol.
The College and IGC are seeking scholar-teachers interested in future appointment as tenure-track members of a law faculty. This VAP is an opportunity for individuals coming from clerkships, fellowships, or legal practice to enhance their CV with close faculty mentorship in preparation for entering the academic market.
Subject areas of particular interest include: First Amendment law, law and economics, administrative law, business law, criminal law, and legal history. Individuals with any area of scholarly and teaching interest will be considered, however. The expectation is that this will be a two-year position but there will be a review after the first year. The College expects that VAPs produce at least one work of original scholarship with guidance and mentoring from FSU Law faculty members over the course of the two-year position. Each visitor will teach one class in the second semester of the first year and teach that course and a second course during the second year if the position is renewed. Courses will be selected in coordination with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and subject to curricular approval by the Curriculum Committee. VAPs are welcome to attend all faculty activities open to visiting professors, including faculty workshops and conferences.
Each VAP will have at least one opportunity to present a paper in the faculty workshop series. VAPs will be expected to engage in some IGC programming. They will also receive a supplementary research budget to travel to conferences and other academic expenses.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
