Responsibilities
The Administrative Associate functions as the primary contact person for the Institute for Governance and Civics. This position provides critical administrative support for the Institute, including assisting with scheduling, HR, procurement, and Travel activities.
- Serves as a primary point of contact for IGC branch heads and staff to fulfill requests for meeting and event scheduling, travel arrangements, purchasing requests, and other department operations (ex. facilities, ITS). Organizes, distributes, and monitors these requests until fulfilled.
- Schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, conferences, travel, and work unit operations. Assists with the coordination of non-routine and special activities/events for IGC. Assists with travel for staff and visiting speakers and researchers.
- Serves as a primary point of contact for individuals, groups, and departments and provides organizational information via phone, in person, and through other communication mediums. Develops, sends, receives, copies, and distributes communications to the appropriate entities according to established policies and procedures.
- Assists with procurement purchasing transactions and other expenditures per policies and procedures. Serves as the backup p-card proxy.
- Assist with HR tasks for IGC including time and leave entry/tracking, appointment processes, and payroll.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency and four years experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement IGC policies and procedures, including managing funding requests from external departments, employees, and graduate students. Oversee and complete the procurement process, including Payment Works, and monitor contract progress. Coordinate meetings with key staff and external stakeholders. Serve as p-card proxy for team members, managing transactions and ensuring compliance. Monitor, address, and respond independently to inquiries.
- Hire, train, and supervise OPS staff, student workers, and interns. Assist in implementing MOUs with departments housing tenured faculty. Serve as the primary Travel representative for the department, responsible for making travel arrangements and preparing and entering travel requests, expense reports, and non-travel reimbursements for employees and guests.
- Oversee the graduate-student funding requests program, facilitating the submission and review process, and managing the allocation of funds. Administer the undergraduate student awards program, including coordinating with FSU Awards Night, promoting awards, managing the nomination collection platform, organizing the selection committee, and collaborating with FSU Student Financial Services to ensure timely award disbursements.
- Plan and organize department programs, events, and conferences, including preparing invitations, creating event materials, arranging catering, reserving venues, managing event registration, coordinating internal services and external vendors, overseeing event setup and staffing, and providing support for event close-out and reporting.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to engage current and potential donors, highlighting the IGC’s activities and achievements. Collaborate with the IGC’s external marketing firm and FSU’s marketing and communications teams to optimize performance and ensure adherence to university branding and communication standards. Manage the department’s website, social media, communications, and marketing efforts.
- Oversee FSU’s State Championship for the National Civics Bee, coordinating all aspects of the event with the U.S. Chamber Foundation. Ensure smooth execution by managing logistics, communication, and partnerships to deliver a successful competition.

This position will be full-time, 9-month, within the Department of Economics. The appointment will also have a joint affiliation with the IGC. The anticipated start date is August 2026.
Applicants from any field will receive full consideration, though ideal candidates will demonstrate clear potential to produce frontier research that is policy relevant. We are especially interested in candidates whose research explores how economic and political institutions affect outcomes.
The successful candidate must show evidence of the potential to produce internationally recognized policy-relevant research (at the Assistant level) or have a strong track record of publication success (at the advanced Assistant level). The Institute for Governance and Civics and the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies (ELPS) in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at Florida State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-earning assistant-level faculty position with a focus on pre-K-12 education policy.

The Florida State University College of Law, in conjunction with the Institute for Governance and Civics (IGC), seeks up to two Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP), to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year. The College is located in the heart of downtown Tallahassee – the capital of the nation's third largest state – across the street from the Florida Supreme Court and one block from the Florida Capitol.
The College and IGC are seeking scholar-teachers interested in future appointment as tenure-track members of a law faculty. This VAP is an opportunity for individuals coming from clerkships, fellowships, or legal practice to enhance their CV with close faculty mentorship in preparation for entering the academic market.
Subject areas of particular interest include: First Amendment law, law and economics, administrative law, business law, criminal law, and legal history. Individuals with any area of scholarly and teaching interest will be considered, however. The expectation is that this will be a two-year position but there will be a review after the first year. The College expects that VAPs produce at least one work of original scholarship with guidance and mentoring from FSU Law faculty members over the course of the two-year position. Each visitor will teach one class in the second semester of the first year and teach that course and a second course during the second year if the position is renewed. Courses will be selected in coordination with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and subject to curricular approval by the Curriculum Committee. VAPs are welcome to attend all faculty activities open to visiting professors, including faculty workshops and conferences.
Each VAP will have at least one opportunity to present a paper in the faculty workshop series. VAPs will be expected to engage in some IGC programming. They will also receive a supplementary research budget to travel to conferences and other academic expenses.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
