Carl Schmitt and the History of the First World War

In this talk, Sam Zeitlin will examine Carl Schmitt’s interpretation of the First World War and the broader intellectual and political context that shaped it. Drawing on Schmitt’s writings and the era’s historical developments, the presentation explores how debates over sovereignty, conflict, and modern statecraft emerged from—and continue to be influenced by—the upheavals of the early twentieth century.
