The First Amendment: The Limitations of Free Speech

Date & Time: December 4th, 2025 @ 2:00 PM
Location: Beth Moor Lounge, Longmire Building, 125 Convocation Way

The Institute for Governance and Civics with the Office of Public Policy Events invite you to a thought-provoking debate on the First Amendment and the boundaries of free speech with Jacob Eisler and Prof. Darren Brooks.

Hosted by Denise Harle, this event will examine not only the legal protections afforded by the First Amendment but also the practical considerations of exercising free speech in everyday life. Our panelists will discuss questions like: What are you legally allowed to say? When might speech have consequences even if it’s protected? How can students and young professionals navigate expression in ways that uphold their rights while also maintaining professional and social credibility? This event is especially relevant for FSU students preparing to enter the workforce, where understanding the line between free expression and practical discretion can be critical. Attendees will gain insights into balancing personal beliefs, public statements, and professional opportunities, all within the context of America’s foundational commitment to free speech.

This event is free and open to the public!
