The IGC will combine technical expertise, theory, and practice to connect America’s core principles with contemporary American civic life. Our focus is multi-pronged and ambitious.

First, the IGC will enhance university research and teaching by working with FSU departments and schools to hire and retain top scholars across a wide variety of disciplines, including American constitutionalism, political science, American history, economics, political philosophy, and more. We will provide grants to faculty, students, and post-docs to study topics related to American civics and civic life.

Second, the IGC will examine secondary education, focusing on how K12 schools teach civics and other related topics. We will research ways to improve the delivery of secondary education to students and their families. Because K12 education is so crucial to a well-functioning republic, our researchers will address reforms that can improve educational outcomes in Florida---and the nation.

Third, the IGC will engage the public through programming. Public universities ultimately belong to the people. At the IGC, we believe that education should be used to improve people’s lives beyond the classroom alone. It is crucial to offer programs that reach out to the community and to policymakers. We will host intellectually diverse events, speakers, debates, and similar activities to reach not just FSU students, but those who make it possible for FSU to thrive as one of the country's top educational institutions.
