Miami News Trust, INC. v. City of Miami, and James Reyes, City Manager

  • Press
  • Speech

The City of Miami’s media policy prevents willing City employees from speaking directly to the press. Instead, the press must send all requests through the City’s Office of Communications, which makes it difficult for the press to gather and report news. It also treats the press differently than members of the general public, who may communicate directly with City employees.

FSU Law’s First Amendment Clinic filed a lawsuit against the City of Miami and the City Manager in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Litigation is ongoing.
