- Legal Filings
Florida State University College of Law’s First Amendment Clinic made its first appearance in the United States Supreme Court, marking a significant milestone for the Clinic and its students.
The amicus brief was submitted in Foothills Christian Ministries v. Kim Johnson, a free-speech case challenging a California law that requires faith-based preschools to post state-mandated messages promoting access to spiritual advisors of different faiths. If a preschool fails to comply with the regulation, it loses its operating license.
Foothills asks whether the government may force religious organizations to convey messages that conflict with their beliefs as a condition of licensure.
